Godiva is gone. She passed away of natural causes this morning, while I was gently rubbing her.

Though the other cats may be easier to deal with, Godiva was the undisputed royalty of the household. She had that royal air from the moment she and her beloved mate Pikachu came into our home, back in 2002, at the age of 4. She was a shy, standoffish cat, yet very intrepid and affectionate when the mood struck her. The only creature she was ever totally unguarded with was Pikachu.

When he died suddenly in 2005, she was devastated, and was never really the same again. Some people say that cats don't have mates, or that they don't feel as we do, but the evidence of my eyes tells me differently. I believe all things have the ability to exceed themselves, and go beyond the rough limitations we ascribe to them. And exceed those limitations Godiva did, and loved Pikachu to the depths of her soul. That she loved us as well, I have no doubt. And even as difficult as she could be to deal with sometimes, we loved and cared for her, through things that would have led other people to cast her off, or perhaps even abuse her. But in some ways, that all just served to increase our love and dedication to her.

Through it all, to this day, and for all the days ahead, she is a treasure.

Go to him now, my sweet girl. I miss you, and already can't wait until I can see you again. And when you see him, please let him know that I miss him too.

I'm so sorry. It's terrible when a pet passes away, but at least you got to be there with her so she was not alone and afraid. She passed as she lived, surrounded by love.

I'm so sorry. I know how it is, and you're right - cats take the deaths of their partners very hard. Boomer, who we lost last year, went into a several-months-long depression when his buddy Herschel the boxer dog died. The only thing that made him start eating again and enjoying life was a little golden kitten named Groucho that gave him someone to play his mean little games on again...

Let me add my deepest, deepest condolence to the lost of your furbaby. I know too well how devastating the lost of a pet can be. I lost my Candy just a year ago and had her for 16 years and still long for her.

I wish I had the words to comfort you. Just know I know the pain you are going through and you will be in my thoughts this weekend.

I was completely shocked to read this ... Jayson I am so sorry for your loss... I remember seeing pictures of your cat licking the gel off of JPs head... Thought that was hilarious....

My sister and I had cats who were siblings.. When my cat passed away her sister passed away a year later of a broken heart. There was no other reason because the cat was in perfect health. Mind you they were in their late teens early 20's...

I'm so sorry buddy. I too know what you are feeling all too well and my heart goes out to you. It seems to get more and more devastating each time it happens but even though they may be physically gone, I still cherish the time we shared and I know that my life is richer for loving them.
